Description:
The space-time power spectra package calculates temporal modes ranging from
a period of 2*dt to N*dt where N = length of the time series and dt = data
increment.  Spacial analyses are performed meridionally over a belt of
latitudes for zonal wave numbers 1 and 2 as well as selected regional box
averages.  Power for waves 1 and 2 can be further divided into eastward and
westward propagating modes. This package is applied to single fields at a
single level.

Input:
Time series of global data (assumed N->S) of a single field at a single level
in IEEE format. (A program to pre-process fields from FMS netcdf to IEEE does
exist.)

Output:
XMGR ready, tab delimited text file of spectral power as a function of temporal
period, for regional sectors and waves 1 and 2.

Current resolutions supported via define options:
t30,t42,t63,r21,r30,n30,n45,ncep2_5(2.5x2.5NCEP),n2_5(2.5x2.5),n2_5x2(2.5x2.0)

Typical configuration for MJO analyses and some fields analyzed:
Time series of daily data for each year (360 days used). Usually an equatorial
belt from approx. 5N -> 5S is chosen. The regional analyses that have typically
been used are 8 equal 45 deg sectors starting at Greenwich.  Modes with periods
less than 10 days are excluded from final output file.
.

Typical fields analyzed are:
Velocity potential at 200 hPa and 850 hPa
Zonal wind at 200 hPa and 850 hPa

Precip
SST

Additional fields of interest for coupled GCM:
Latent and sensible heat fluxes
Some measure of ocean heat content
