Abstract: The type of stratified flow suggested by the Kantha Phillips and Azad experiment is examined analytically and shown to be a self-similar, turbulent flow which includes the well-documented flatplate, turbulent boundary-layer case. Some relevant second-moment turbulent closure model calculations are compared with the KPA data.
